Updated: Feb 28, 2020

MEDIA RELEASE 30 January 2020 DCCI welcomes approval for expanded waterfront hotel development The Devonport Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has welcomed the Devonport Council’s decision to approve the Development Application for the expanded waterfront hotel development. DCCI President Dane Layton said the expanded plans shows growing investor confidence in the Devonport economy. “Tourism is a major growth sector for Devonport and the North West. Increasing capacity at the waterfront hotel development by 71 rooms shows confidence in our region’s future,” Mr Layton said. “It’s great for local hospitality, retail and service businesses and part of a trend towards Devonport becoming the tourism hub of the North West. “It’s also great news for local commercial construction businesses who will benefit from a major new pipeline of work. “I commend the Devonport Council for supporting the expansion of this significant private sector investment in our city and the ongoing jobs it will create for local people.” The waterfront hotel development is part of Stage 2 of the Living City development – Tasmania’s largest-ever regional urban renewal plan – which is strongly supported by the DCCI.
